First published in September 1995 as Reptile Hobbyist, it was bimonthly until the September 1996 issue when it became monthly. With the May 1999 issue it was renamed Reptile & Amphibian Hobbyist. Published by TFH Publications, Inc. well-known for their Tropical Fish magazine, it came out on its own after increased interest in reptile articles in the Tropical Fish publication. It went out-of-print with the November 2001 issue.
